x (10 out of 10 ) Spike Lee keeps it real with this indictment on America. Malcolm X is a beautifully written script and a masterpiece of a movie.

I thought this was a stunning piece of film-making and the deal was almost sealed until, in the closing few moments, Spike Lee decided to get all sugary on us. Children of the world declare "I'm Malcolm X" in a Benetton-colourful montage, while a now doddering Nelson Mandela lavishes the highest of praise on 'brother Malcolm'. It is at this point that an epic, swaggering biopic is reduced to a simpering piece of hero-worship; one of the worst endings to a great movie I have ever seen.
